Yesterday, Dink McDougal lived in a snug little house with her parents and older brother, Scoot. She liked school ok. She played a few sports, and she enjoyed eating. Today, she found a book. Now, trouble has just become her middle name!
Excerpt: "I think we should take'em out for one last spin," yelled Dink over the shouts of the other sledders. "Then, let's go explore around some and see if we can't solve Mrs. Bruce's mystery once and for all!"
"Good idea." Maryann shouted back as she dropped onto her sled and pushed off for one last ride down the crowded hill.
Just then, Dink caught a glimpse of a familiar figure wearing a black coat and a black ski mask peeking around the corner of an ironwood tree. The figure jumped onto a waiting snowboard as Maryann flew passed. With a strong push from his left foot to take off, he went sailing in pursuit of Maryann!
Dink felt her heart speed up. Was it the masked attacker back to give them another warning? Or, would it be more than a warning this time?
Dink shouted after her cousin. With all the noise from the other sledders it didn't seem possible that she would be heard in time. There was only one thing for her to do! She had to get to Maryann before the masked attacker did. She grabbed her own sled and rushed it down the hill before jumping on.
What if it really was the masked attacker from the other day? What would the girls do? And, what did the attacker have planned this time?
